Studies Show Modern Couples Desiring Egalitarian Relationships and Marriage

Egalitarian RelationshipThe news recently broke that actress Gabrielle Union requested a prenuptial agreement before she got married to NBA Player, Dwayne Wade.

Although some might find this unusual, because an NBA Player with significant wealth would be the more likely candidate to request a prenup, it turns out that Union's request is not so strange.

The actress recently revealed why she was so focused on getting a prenuptial agreement, and it had more to do with her brand than it did protecting her assets or his assets.

Union believes that all women in Hollywood are primarily concerned about their brand. It was her goal to use a prenuptial agreement to help establish that she was her own person and her own brand, and that she wasn't simply becoming attached to an NBA Player for the hopes of boosting her own visibility.

Union's request is not that much different from women outside of the Hollywood circle either. It turns out that egalitarian relationships are becoming much more common for younger couples today.

Both young men and young women are encouraging the structure of an egalitarian relationship, meaning that they would take an equal portion of the responsibilities, the burdens, and the benefits in that relationship.

In fact, you might be thinking about the many reasons to consider setting up a meeting with a Miami prenuptial agreement lawyer. A prenuptial agreement is a good place to start having a clear conversation about finances with your future spouse.

Having this conversation now could help you and your future spouse work through some key issues and avoid arguments about money once you’re married.

Many research studies have pointed out that financial issues are a common problem for couples who ultimately get divorced, so it is certainly in your best interests.

Younger Couples Want More Even Split of Responsibilities in Marriage

Higher numbers of younger couples say they want to divide things equally and be on the same page before getting married. This includes physical, emotional, and financial.

Even Though it is the goal for many modern-day couples focused on these egalitarian relationship to work together as a harmonious partnership, there's also a focus on what they individually bring to the table and where they draw the distinct lines as separate individuals.

Research from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of Texas at Austin revealed that many unmarried and childless women and men between the ages of 18 and 32 would prefer to structure their relationships, so that each has a clear understanding of the earnings brought into the relationship by each partner.

The study also identified that the more the women were to request an egalitarian relationship.

This study also supports the increasing numbers of women who are requesting prenuptial agreements.

Since women are hoping to build their own careers, and to serve as a care-giver, at the home, it is increasingly common for women to see the benefits of prenuptial agreements.

More People Requesting Prenups

As an example, a new research study from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers revealed that more than 63% of divorced lawyers have seen increases in prenuptial agreements.

Those same attorneys also shared that there's been a 45% jump in women being the ones to request that agreement in the first place.

If you have been thinking about getting a prenuptial agreement, in order to support the goals and structure of your relationship, as you enter into marriage, it's important to speak with an experienced attorney.
